Kevin Langeree of the Netherlands won the Red Bull King of the Air 2014 at Big Bay in Cape Town, South Africa on Sunday (2nd February).

A crowd of twelve thousand gathered at Big Bay in Cape Town for the Red Bull King of the Air 2014.

24 of the world's best kiteboarders competed in the event - and it came down to a Dutch trio for the title.

Kevin Langeree finished ahead of his compatriots Ruben Lenten and Steven Akkersdijk, who were second and third respectively.

The competition had a 'flag out' format and competitors were judged on height, creativity and style.

The six judges had a new tool to help them.

An application called Xensr technology was used to measure the height, speed, airtime, gravity loading, location and the 3D motion of athletes, with all data captured at 400 times a second and is accurate to within 3mm as soon as they land a jump.

Langeree was delighted with his victory:

"Yeah this day was just one of these days you know that usually only happen in dreams but sometimes they come to reality. And today everything just came together, the conditions were perfect - the waves, the wind. I was feeling great because I have been training quite a bunch here on Big Bay and it felt so good, especially in the finals, all the crowd on the beach, it was pretty amazing."
Frenchman Tom Herbert had the highest jump of the day 25.04 metres.

South African Andries Fourie had the second highest jump - 23.37 metres - which helped him to finish fourth overall.
