Michael Schumacher's doctors have started trying to wake up the former Formula One champion from the medically-induced coma he's been in since a skiing accident last month, his manager said on Thursday.

"It is a situation that differs very much from one person to another and that depends on many factors. The factor in favour of Michael Schumacher is the fact that he is a professional sportsman and because of this his physical and mental health and immunity are exceptional. So it's a factor that is very favourable to recovery, clearly, in comparison to the average of traumatic brain injuries. It is very hard to go beyond that for a prognosis because, as I said, I don't have enough information, and secondly recovery from serious traumatic brain injuries takes months and sometimes a few years."
