The flame is spending less time in Russia's North Caucasus republics due to security concerns.

The Olympic torch relay arrives in Chechnya.

Torch bearers run through the streets of the capital Grozny.

Among them Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, who lit a cauldron at the football stadium, the Ahmad-Arena.

Telling the crowd that it was "a great event for all of us". Hoping they would always be as joyful as today. Urging the people to come together on such joyful occasions.

The time the Olympic flame is spending travelling through Chechnya and other North Caucasus republics is shorter than in the rest of the country due to security reasons.

The Olympic flame passed through the capital of Dagestan on Monday.

The Russian southern republic has become the centre of an Islamic insurgency which has engulfed Russia's North Caucasus after two separatist wars in Chechnya.

An Islamic militant group in Dagestan claimed responsibility for two suicide bombings which killed 34 people in late December in Volgograd and has since threatened to attack the Games in Sochi.
