Ski Slopestyle took centre stage at the X-Games in Aspen, Colorado on Sunday.

Gus Kenworthy of the United States made a little X-Games history when the 22-year-old completed the first 'switch triple rodeo 1440' at an X-Games competition.

However, the rest of his performance didn't seem to impress the judges - Kenworthy could only manage a fifth-place finish.

McRae Williams of the United States was the only member of the eight-strong final without a ticket to the Sochi Olympics next month and he was determined to show the selectors what they were missing.

Williams scored 92.66 points on his second run - putting his own triple in to finish - and took the lead going into the third and final run.

The defending champion was another American, Nick Goepper, and it looked like his attempt to become the first athlete in a decade to win back-to-back gold medals at Aspen would falter after the 19-year-old crashed on his first run.

His third was almost flawless though and a final run score of 95.00 was too good, even for Williams.

Goepper laid down the perfect marker ahead of the Sochi Games.

Williams had to settle for silver, while Norway's Andreas Hatveit - in his ninth and final appearance at an X-Games - picked up the bronze medal.
