The Italian resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo was the place to be if you wanted to see women's World Cup skiing with a second successive downhill on Saturday.

Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein moved into the provisional lead after covering the course in one minute, 38.17 seconds.

Weirather finished second in Friday's downhill, and there would be no first place for her this time either - Marianne Kaufmann-Abderhalden soon displaced her, crossing the line in one minute, 38.06.

But it was Tina Maze who secured her first win of the season across all of the World Cup disciplines with a lead by more than a quarter-of-a-second.

The Slovenian covered the course in one minute, 37.79 seconds - a result that trims Maria Hoefl-Riesch's overall lead to 75 points after she finished fourth.

The German finished 0.54-of-a-second behind Maze but is still ahead of her Weirather, with two downhills to go in the season.

Weirather also closed in on Hoefl-Riesch in the overall standings, where she now trails by 148 points.
