Parrot triumphs at FIS World Cup event

    Canada's Maxence Parrot wins the men's snowboard slopestyle event at Stoneham, Canada on Sunday (19th January) in the FIS Snowboard Freestyle World Cup.

    The penultimate FIS World Cup event of snowboarding was held in Stoneham, Quebec on Sunday.

    Maxence Parrot of Canada triumphed for the first time at an FIS World Cup event, he topped the pile thanks to a score of 94.50 on his first run.

    SOUNDBITE (English): Maxence Parrot, Canadian winner of event:
    "Well, you know, like I said, this week I told to all the newspapers that I was going for gold at the last, so qualis I didn't have the choice to go first, and in the finals I also didn't have the chance to go first, so I did what I told everyone I was about to do and I'm happy that I did what I said I was about to do."

    Parrot placed ahead of Niklas Mattsson of Sweden who scored 87.50 for his run, while Norwegian snowboarder Torgeir Bergrem finished third after scoring 83 in his second run.

    The Canadian now leads the overall slopestyle discipline standings by 120 points from Norway's Staale Sandbech, while Mattsson is in third overall.

    Australia's Scotty James retains the lead in the overall snowboard freestyle rankings with 2,580 points, 60 ahead of Japanese boarder Rana Okada.

    The next and final FIS Snowboard Freestyle World Cup event will be in Kreischberg, Austria in March following a break for the Winter Olympics.
