Freeskiers perform stunts in desolate Detroit

  • Intro:

Freestyle skiers Karl Fostvedt, Khai Krepela and Max Morello tried tricks in Detroit's abandoned warehouses, schools and industrial buildings.

    Script:

In the 1950s Detroit was the home of America's motor industry. Today all that's left is the shell of its once prosperous past. But freestyle skiers Karl Fostvedt, Khai Krepela and Max Morello are taking a more positive approach to the abandoned buildings of Michigan's most populated city.

With around 70,000 derelict premises in the city, the trio built ski jumps, rails and ramps in Detroit's crumbling warehouses, schools and industrial complexes.

Due to the lack of snow, the freeskiers were forced to transport blocks to their chosen locations using a truck.

Fostvedt performed this grind on a rail before jumping over a flight of steps at a school.

Morello then tried these flips... and lost his hat in the process!

Krepela then pulled of this trick.

The roar of engines may be no more in the Michigan city of Detroit but here to stay is the global appeal of the sound of skis on snow.
