Marcel Hirscher won a World Cup giant slalom race at Val d'Isere in France as several racers to skied out on Saturday.

The biggest casualty of the piste was Ted Ligety, who had been favourite for this race.

Olympic Gold medalist from Vancouver, Bode Miller, was another casualty with this spectacular fall.

Frenchman Thomas Fanara faired much better, coming in with a time of 2 minutes 17 seconds which at this stage gave him the lead.

Hirscher, the Austrian, was third after the first run, but following Fanara posted a time which was 0.76 seconds ahead of the Frenchman.

It was Hirscher's second win of the season after his slalom victory at Levi in Finland, and fourth podium from five races so far.
