The Swiss rising star shone bright as Colorado dealt with the loss of local girl Lindsey Vonn through injury.

The challenging Raptor course in Beaver Creek, Colorado was the venue for the FIS World Cup women's super-G.

Despite the absence of local hero Lindsey Vonn, who had to withdraw after injuring her right knee again last week, there was still a huge crowd to see the ladies do battle.

Switzerland's Lara Gut was able to take the victory - and seal a two-wins-from-two race sweep.

The 22-year-old, who won the downhill race on Friday, dominated again to cross the line with a time of one minute, 18.42 seconds. That margin allowed her to usurp Austrian ski-racer Elisabeth Goergl, who had been leading early on, and better her time of 1:19.32 by almost a second.

Another Austrian - Anna Fenninger - had the chance to topple Gut, but her run of 1:19.34 meant that she was forced to settle for third.

It was a fitting tribute to the fine form of Gut that her contemporaries in Beaver Creek were unable to dip under the sub-one-minute-19-second mark and capped a memorable weekend for the scintillating Swiss.

She won a giant slalom last month in Austria, then the first women's downhill of the season on Friday.

It was, however, another bleak day for the Americans, with Leanne Smith placing 24th to lead the US Ski Team.

Gut leads the super-G discipline standings, by 20 points over Goergl - and the overall World Cup standings, with a 145-point lead over Fenninger.
