Session eight in the men's round robin play at the European Curling Championship in Karlstad, Sweden, and survival was at stake for Germany as they played Switzerland.

However the Swiss team secured a 7-5 win meaning Germany now stand one defeat away from a drop to the B division.

Sweden gave the home crowd something to cheer about, they narrowly beat Scotland 7-6: skip Niklas Edin tapping out the Scots.

After the Czech Republic overcame Russia 7-6, France took on high flying Norway, and again survival was on the agenda.

The game went to an extra end - with French skip Thomas Dufour holding his nerve to score the one point needed for a 6-5 victory, and keep French hopes alive on the ice.
