The Chilean Andes provided the breathtaking backdrop for the second Swatch Skiers Cup between Team USA and Team Europe.

Last year, Team Americas' captain Mark Abma had to watch, sidelined with an injury, as his men were defeated by Team Europe.

This year, Abma was again a late withdrawal, with.Cody Townsend taking the reins.

Team Europe were captained by Sverre Liliequist and kept four of last year's skiers.

Due to unsafe snow conditions on Friday's intended backcountry slopestyle course, a last minute decision was made to hold a tiebreak-style match with only three riders from each team on a higher venue with better snow conditions.

The score prior to the tie-break - eight-all.

Townsend gave Team Americas an immediate advantage with victory over France's Mathieu Imbert.

Team Europe battled back with a win for Italy's Marcus Eder against Chopo Diaz.

And in the decider, KC Deane of America defeated the United Kingdom's Paddy Graham to secure success for Townsend's squad.

SOUNDBITE (English): Cody Townsend, Team Americas captain:

"You know, just winning is really cool. But more than anything, everyone had a lot of fun. The skiing was all-time (very good), the show (competition) was amazing. The Europeans skied so well and it was such a narrow victory. I mean, tied all the way up to the very last run - it doesn't get any closer than that . So it was really cool to see such a high level of skiing and everyone getting on really well. And you know, I feel lucky to win."

The next running of the Swatch Skiers Cup will be held in Zermatt, Switzerland, in front of the Matterhorn from the 9th through the 16th of February next year
