  • Intro:

Italy's Roland Fischnaller and Amelie Kober of Germany won the last parallel men's and women's parallel giant slalom races of the season respectively on Saturday in Valmalenco, Italy.

However, the World Cup title went to their direct rivals for the Crystal Globe, Switzerland's Patrizia Kummer in the women's event and Andreas Prommegger of Austria in the men's.

The final snowboarding World Cup event of the season at Valmalenco in Italy went down to the wire on Saturday.

The title was still at stake in both the men's and women's parallel slalom disciplines.

The ladies' decision for the Globe came to an early end, however, after Switzerland's Patrizia Kummer secured her spot in the finals of the Parallel Giant Slalom competition.

Her big rival Amelie Kober managed to beat her in the big final, but the second-place finish was enough to assure Kummer the Crystal Globe.

Austria's Julia Dujmovits beat her compatriot Claudia Riegler to take bronze.

In the men's race Andreas Prommegger could only finish sixth - but that was enough to give the Austrian the World Cup title, twenty points ahead of runner-up Roland Fischnaller of Italy.

Fischnaller was disappointed to have not taken the overall title, but was pretty pleased with his season.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Roland Fischnaller:

"So I'm happy for the five victories for sure. He was a little bit more lucky than me, so close. I lost the globe for sure last week in Spain because I was too nervous and stuff like that but today I was really focused just to snowboard as good as I can and so I am really happy about the season and, yeah."

The Italian took Saturday's race for his fifth victory of the season.
