Dyche: Liverpool contained

  • Reaction from Burnley manager Sean Dyche after Burnley beat Liverpool 2-0 at Turf Moor in the English Premier League on Saturday (20th August), despite only having 19 per cent possession and mustering just three efforts on goal.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Sean Dyche, Burnley manager:
"We don't expect in every game to keep possession as much as some of the teams we're playing. You know, they... most of these teams, you look at Liverpool today, at times they had six men in midfield. I think if I put six in midfield, I'd probably keep the ball a long time, but we want to penetrate, we want to be productive in front of goal and I thought we showed enough today to take really good chances, create and take them. I felt tht we did contain them and keep their chances to... long shots and bits and bobs really, you know, and I was really pleased with the organisation of the players."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Sean Dyche, Burnley manager:
"Simple as that. It's just the psychology of it, get that win, clear everyone's minds. We're here for a reason, because we came out of the Championship in fine form. we know there's work to do, we're still in the market, wewant to keep improving. It will do the lads the world of good and it's great for the fans here today. They want big names here, they want Premier League football. They stand by us, they know it's not going to be easy, they know we're not a club that can throw money everywhere and I think the fans have played a terrific part in the journey so far in the three and-a-half years for me here."
