  • Jiangsu Suning claimed thrilling 3-2 win over Shanghai Shenhua in their Chinese FA Cup semi-final first leg on Wednesday (August 17th).

Shanghai Shenhua hosted Jiangsu Suning in the Chinese FA Cup semi-finals on Wednesday at Hongkou Stadium.

With the two teams second and third in the Chinese Super League it seemed a tightly contested match was on the cards - and Shanghai drew first blood through Obafemi Martins.

The Nigerian striker drilled a low shot beyond Gu Chao after a neat turn in the penalty-area to give the home side the lead with twenty-one minutes on the clock.

The visitors responded eight minutes after half-time. Folloing two excellent saves by Li Shuai, the ball fell to Alex Teixeira and the former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder fired in the equaliser.

Moments later, Jiangsu went infront as Xi Wu pounced on a rebound to tap in from nine yards.

The drama continued, and with ten minutes remaining Teixeira grabbed his second goal of the game with a calm finish into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.

The hosts did manage to pull goal back deep into injury time as acrobatics from Martins ensured that he too scored a brace.

It finished 3-2 to Jiangsu Suning - leaving it all to play for when the two sides meet again in the second-leg.
