Lack of experience cost us - Wenger

  • Reaction from Arsene Wenger after Liverpool beat Arsenal 4-3 at the Emirates Stadium in London on Sunday (14th August).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager (on the game and preparations for the new season)

"Of course, we are bitterly disappointed beacuse I feel that it was a contrast between the two halves and that we lost this game for many reasons, but one of them is psychologically, just to be back at 1-1 at half time and after that the second one (reason) is that physically we are not capable of maintaining the level at the moment, because not all the players have the same level of preparation and maybe as well we lacked a bit of experience, but overall, I think if you look well at the goals, it was not neccessarily the inexperienced players who cost us the goals today."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager (on Arsenal's long injury list and why the team seems to be underprepared for the start of the season)

"I agree with you, but we are not stupid, you know, we prepare well the players that we have, but I think as well you have to consider that we have been a bit unlucky as well. We have lost Per Mertesacker and Gabriel in the preparation and (Laurent) Koscielny is not fit, you have sometimes to accept that you cannot control absolutely everything, even if you try to be as intelligent as possible."
