Questions over PGA rain delay

  • The PGA Championship third round at Baltusrol Golf Club was called for the day after weather warnings and waterlogging on Saturday (30 July).

Thunderstorms cut short the PGA Championship on Saturday (30th July) in Springfield before 10 players could even hit a shot, sending leaders Jimmy Walker and Robert Streb back to the clubhouse before they'd even made it from the practice ground. Standing water shut things down at 2.14pm. So Walker and Streb - tied for the lead at 9-under par - face a 36-hole Sunday, assuming the course can be ready for that.

Here are some of the great shots we did manage to catch out on the Baltusrol Golf Course on Saturday. That was Padraig Harrington's approach to the 14th hole, which he went on to birdie.

Kevin Kisner was in fine form birdying on the 16th hole and 17th holes to finish -5 for the day. Kisner and Harrington carded the best of Saturday's completed rounds with their 65s.

We did sneak in this shot by Daniel Summerhays. He holed out his approach on No. 2 for eagle and -4.

But as weather warnings continued questions were asked of PGA officials for not moving tee times or having a two tee start to crack on with the round.

Kerry Haigh, The PGA of America's Championships Officer, placated media and onlookers like this.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Kerry Haigh, The PGA of America's Championships Officer:

"Well, firstly, I would like to say how obviously disappointed we are with not being able to complete or even resume play for today. The weather as we announced, we had the three cells of dangerous weather.

"But we do have Monday as an option, to continue into Monday if we need be. But our primary aim is to try and finish tomorrow evening."
