  • World number one, Jason Day looked ahead to the The Open Championship at Royal Troon on Monday.

SOUNDBITE (English) Jason Day, world no.1:

(On what it would mean to him to win the Open)

"Just to be called the champion Open golfer of the year would be fantastic. When I was growing up there were two major championships that we looked at. There was Augusta and the Open championship. Back in the day when (Greg) Norman came over a lot of Australians would start their career in Europe and (the Open) is what their favourite major would be. This is pretty special. The 145th (Open), it's been around for a long time, the greats have all held the trophy - the claret jug. To be able to hold that once in my career it would be very pleasing and satisfying."

SOUNDBITE (English) Jason Day, world no.1:

(On learning from his recent disappointments)

"Even though I don't like losing it was great to be able to learn something from that and turn that into what I would say is a learning experience and try and get better and learn from it. At the end of the day I'm trying to get as good as I can and the only way to do that is to learn from failure. The way you look at it is not in a negative way, but to look at it in a positive light. If I can do that you can't do anything but go up."
