Scottish Open win for Noren big boost ahead of Royal Troon

Monday, July 11 2016 by SNTV
  • Alex Noren secured victory in the Scottish Open by one stroke on Sunday (10th July).

The rain stayed away for the final day of the Scottish Open - a rare moment of calm in a week where the notorious Scottish weather challenged the players as much as the course at Castle Stuart.

Scotsman Richie Ramsey is of course no stranger to the wind and rain, and he tackled the still gusty conditions impressively.

A final day 67 on the par 72 course enough to shoot him into a tie for sixth, 11-under overall.

Danny Lee began the day with high hopes of taking a win - starting the day three shots behind overnight leader Alex Noren.

But the Australian just couldn't kick on - a round of 69 enough to secure a tie for third at 12-under.

The same finishing score as Matteo Manassero. The Italian's final round of two under means his three year wait for a title continues.

Nicholas Colsaerts was the third player sharing third. The Belgian shot a brilliant round of 66 - his second of six-under in two days - to shoot up the leaderboard.

Englishman Tyrrell Hatton finished in second, 13-under - one shot behind the overnight leader Noren.

Noren shot a round of two-under to finish 14-under overall for his fifth European Tour victory, and his first since lifting the Noreda Masters trophy in 2015.

Noren will tee off in the Open on the 14th of July at Royal Troon - a win in Scottish conditions will have given him real belief he can lift the Claret Jug.
