Cilic battles past Johnson into Queen's semi-finals

  • Marin Cilic clinched his place in the semi-finals at Queen's Club after beating Steve Johnson 6-7 6-3 6-4 in the quarter-finals in London on Friday.

    Having recorded his first top 10 win in the opening round against Richard Gasquet to break a 13-match losing streak against the elite, Steve Johnson got off to the perfect start in his quarter final against Croatia's Marin Cilic by cliching the first set tie break 7-3 of their clash at Queen's Club.

    2012 Champion Cilic then put his first set problems behind him, breaking the american for a 4-2 lead before going on to take the second set 6-3 and level the match.

    However, the pendulum swung back in Johnson's favour in the third with Cilic finding himself 40-0down in the first game and 0-30 on his serve in the next game. But he battled his way back in to the decider by converting a break point in the ninth game to go 5-4 up.

    And the fifth seed completed the comeback to take take the set 6-4 to seal his place the the semi-finals on Saturday in west London.
