  • Third seed Milos Raonic defeated Nick Kyrgios and wild card Kyle Edmund claimed the scalp of eighth seed Gilles Simon in first-round action at the Aegon Championships on Wednesday (15th June).

    Milos Raonic won his first match under the guidance of three-time Wimbledon champion John McEnroe at the Aegon Championships on Wednesday.

    Resuming the match on one-set all after bad light ended play on Tuesday, the Canadian - a semi-finalist at Wimbledon two years ago - broke to lead 5-4 and then fought off two break points on his own serve to win 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4.

    Raonic served 20 aces in the match but converted just two of his 11 break point opportunities in the match.

    Meanwhile. British player Kyle Edmund overcame eighth seed Gilles Simon in the biggest win of his young career.

    The 21-year-old, ranked 85th in the world, claimed the first set before Simon leveled at one apiece.

    After a rain delay however, Edmund raced to victory in the deciding set, breaking the experienced Frenchman twice,

    Edmund served out the match to win the tie 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
