Djokovic sets up Murray French final clash

  • Novak Djokovic stormed into his sixth consecutive Grand Slam final with a 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Austrian Dominic Thiem at the French Open on Friday. The world number one will face second seed Andy Murray, who reached his eighth Grand Slam final following a 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory over defending champion Stan Wawrinka.

    It's the only Grand Slam title to have eluded him, but Novak Djokovic was in dominant form as he came up Dominic Thiem in what proved to be a one-sided semi-final on at at Friday's French Open.

    Thiem showed glimpses of the form which brought him to the last four at a Grand Slam for the first time - but he was no match for the experienced top seed. who dropped only three three games in the opening two sets.

    The Serb eventually saw off 22-year-old Thiem by taking the third set to wrap up a 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 victory to to move within one victory of completing the set of all four major titles.

    Djokovic will be up against Andy Murray in Sunday's final. The number two seed was back to his best in his semi-final match against defending champion Stan Wawrinka.

    A single break in the first set saw the Scot go on to take the opener 6-4, before stepping up a gear in the second.

    Murray's first serve percentage, which had been a weakness at Roland Garros, saw a marked improvement with its increased accuracy - with Wawrinka being outplayed and outclassed as Murray took it by six games to two.

    But the defending champion fought his way back into the match by taking the third set.

    However, a determined Murray swiftly regained control and secured a break in the opening game of the fourth, before going on to to seal a comprehensive victory to become the first British man to reach a French Open final since 1937.
