The LPGA's 2nd annual North Texas LPGA Shootout got underway in perfect conditions on Thursday.
Michelle Wie was out early and put together a solid opening round.
Wie, who won in her native Hawaii last month, rolled in a long eagle putt at the par-five 10th to move to three under. She added another stroke coming in and signed a four-under-par 67, for a share of second place.
Wie played in a group with top-ranked, defending champion Inbee Park. A double bogey on 15 left the South Korean at one over but she pulled back to par with a birdie on the par-three 17th. She finished even par for the day.
Suzann Pettersen, only recently back from injury, made a strong start here in Texas. She opened her round with a big par save at the 10th and kept a clean card the rest of the way to sign a five-under 66 to claim the out right lead.
Shot of the day went to American Ryann O'Toole who shot a 1-under 70. O'Toole had to play from a concrete drainage ditch on the par-four 12th. She may need a new club, but an unbelievable shot set up her fifth birdie of the day.
