Djokovic beats Nadal to win Miami Open

Tuesday, April 01 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-3 to claim the Sony Open title in Miami on Sunday (30 March) in a battle between the leading two players in the world.

    Script:

Novak Djokovic met Rafael Nadal for the 40th time on tour in the final of the Miami Open - the most frequent match-up in the Open era.

The pair should be used to trading blows.

Only Hawkeye could separate them at times.

Djokovic took a step closer to claiming a fourth Miami title as he won the first set 6-3.

The Serbian broke Nadal's serve in the opening game of the second set and continued to hit winner after winner.

    Leading to an epic match-point...

It was a fitting way for Djokovic to cap a terrific performance and a fine reward for the Miami fans who had seen both Tomas Berdych and KeiNishikori hand the two finalists walkovers in the semi's.

Djokovic has now won 43 Tour level titles but despite the victory, Nadal will retain his position as world number one.
