  • Intro:

Sixth seed Simona Halep of Romania reached the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open with a straight sets 6-2, 6-2 win over Australian qualifier Casey Dellacqua on Wednesday.

    Script:

Romanian Simona Halep needed just an hour to dispatch her Australian opponent Casey Dellacqua 6-2, 6-2 to reach the last four of the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday.

Dellacqua was the first qualifier in ten years to make the quarter-finals of the tournament but she was unable to continue her run.

The Australian will rue the ten break points that she failed to convert, which meant that Halep won all eight of her service games.

Halep was more ruthless when she was given the opportunity and broke four times.

It is the first time that Halep has reached the semi-finals of a premier mandatory level event or higher.

Next up for the 22-year-old is second seed Agnieszka Radwanska.

Radwanska recovered from a poor second set to defeat Jelena Jankovic in three sets.

Former world number one Jankovic, who won Indian Wells in 2010, ran the second seed close in the first set, losing 7-5.

The Serb then showed glimpses of her top form in the second as she comfortably levelled the match taking the set 6-2.

But, Poland's world number three hit back in the final set as the pair traded break points, winning 6-4 after Jankovic sent a return long on her own serve.
