The second round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells in America took place on Saturday.

Andy Murray fought back from a set and a break down to beat Lukas Rosol 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal suffered a similar scare when he also lost the first set of his match against Radek Stepanek 2-6.

The world number one smashed a trio of volleys to fight back and take the second set 6-4.

Nadal's forehand winner claimed the third set 7-5 to reach the next round.

Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka progressed in straight sets against Ivo Karlovic, 6-3, 7-5.

A week after registering a record sixth crown at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Roger Federer won the first set against Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-2 following this backhand volley.

It was a much closer affair in the second set but this forehand winner won Federer the tie-break 7-6 and the match.

Australian Lleyton Hewitt was crowned Indian Wells champion in 2003 but he won't repeat that feat this year.

Kevin Anderson of South Africa hit this ace to earn a 7-6, 6-4 victory.

The tournament's 11th seed Tommy Haas defeated Frenchman Jérémy Chardy.

    The German's volley wrapped up a 6-3, 6-4 success.

Kei Nishikori of Japan will also play in the next stage after beating Columbian Santiago Giraldo 6-1, 6-3.

The tournament was previously called the American Airlines Tennis Games but the big names are still on course to be crowned Californian champion.
