Tuesday, March 04 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

More than 400 children set a new world record for the largest-ever tennis lesson.

Andy Murray's mum Judy was on hand to help out at Flushing Meadows in New York.

    Script:

Murray helps sets a new record at the venue for the US Open.

But it's not Andy...it's his mum.

Judy Murray finds herself surrounded by more than 400 children at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows in New York.

The kids from local youth organisations taking part in the largest tennis lesson on the planet to set new Guinness World Record.

The event, organised by the United States Tennis Association held to mark World Tennis Day.

Judy Murray, as well as being mother of two-time major winner Andy Murray, is also Great Britain's Fed Cup captain, glad to be involved:

"I've been a coach for over 20 years, I love working with children. And, you know, every sport is dependent on kids - kids are your future, so getting kids involved is really important. And I think it was such a great idea to come up with an opportunity to beat a world record - I mean kids are going to get excited about that aren't they - but to do it for World Tennis Day, on the day before you've got a big event with Andy (Murray) and Novak (Djokovic) playing at Madison Square Garden in New York... yeah, it was a brainwave of somebody, and it was great to be part of it. I still can't believe we're more that 400 children here in one venue."

    And did they do it?

"The total number of participants was 406 - a new Guinness World Record..."

    Like you needed to ask.
