Rafael Nadal returns from a back injury that ruined his Australian Open final to beat Alex Dolgopolov in straight sets to win the ATP Rio Open on Sunday.

    Script:

You just cant keep this man down for long.

Just four weeks after a back injury ruined his Australian Open final, Rafael Nadal got his hands on a different trophy at the Rio Open.

He beat Alex Dolgopolov comfortably despite his opponent showing some nice touches at the net. Nadal took the first set in style 6-3.

The second was closer, with Dolgopolov again showing some soft hands around the net, as well as his trademark backhand.

But Nadal was just too strong in the decisive moments and Dolgopalov knew it. Nadal took the tiebreak and with it the match, maintaining his 100 per cent win record against the Ukrainian.

SOUNDBITE (English): Rafael Nadal, Rio Open winner:
"For sure, no, especially in an unbelievable city like Rio, a big tournament. I think today I played much better than yesterday so happy to have this title with me. It means a lot after the final in Australia, to come back and win again a title so, I'm very happy and just thank you very much everybody here. The crowd was fantastic, unbelievable and the organisation was great."

So a 43rd title on clay for Nadal, who has now won an incredible 93% of his matches on the surface, the best record in the Open Era.
