Italy completed a crushing Fed Cup victory over USA on Sunday (9 February) following a second win for Karin Knapp in the singles.

Karin Knapp faced Alison Riske hoping to seal a best of five series win for Italy over the United States in the Fed Cup first round on Sunday.

Knapp went into the match with a win already under her belt after she beat Christina McHale on Saturday.

She started brightly and won the first set 6-3 before racing to a 5-2 lead in the second.

However, Knapp allowed her opponent back into the game as Riske won three straight games to tie the second set at 5-5.

The Italian eventually regained her composure and won the second set and the match 6-3 7-5.

Italy beating the United States 3-1 - the only consolation for America coming from the doubles where Lauren Davis and Madison Keys triumphed over Nastassja Burnett and Alice Matteucci 6-2 6-3.
