    Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci retained their Australian Open doubles title with a three set victory over Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.

    The Italian duo took the opening set 6-4. but their Russian opponents fought back in the second, winning it 6-3 to level things up.

    Errani and Vinci were aiming to become the first women's doubles team to win back-to-back Australian Open titles since Serena and Venus Williams in 2010.

    And they took an an early break in the decisive third set. The pairing went on to wrap up a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win.

    Errani and Vinci now lead the WTA Road to Singapore doubles standings and retained their number one ranking.
