Australian Open: Wawrinka beats Berdych to reach final

  • Intro:

Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka reached the Australian Open final with a 6-3, 7-6 (1), 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4) win over Tomas Berdych on Thursday (23rd January),

    Script:

In the first men's semi-final at the Australian Open, Tomas Berdych took on Stanislas Wawrinka, with both players looking to reach the final for the first time.

And Wawrinka converted his first break point of the match in the eight game, going on to take the opening set 6-3.

But Berdych, a 2010 Wimbledon finalist, came back by comprehensively winning a tie-break in the second, to level things up at one set all.

The third set also went to a tie-break, this time it was Wawrinka who came out on top 7-3, as a nervous Berdych served two double faults.

Set number four followed a similar pattern as Wawrinka emerged victorious 7-4 in the breaker, to seal a four-set win. Wawrinka will now meet the winner of Friday's other semi-final between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
