Novak Djokovic advanced to the third round of the Australian Open on Wednesday, following a 6-0, 6-4, 6-4 win over Leonardo Meyer.

Under the guidance of Boris Becker, Djokovic is aiming to be the first man in the Open era to win four consecutive Australian Open titles.

In the women's draw local favourite Sam Stosur delighted the crowd by thrashing Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2, 6-0. Stosur will now meet 14th seed Ana Ivanovic in the third round.

Elsewhere in the doubles event Pat Rafter's return to action after retiring 13 years ago lasted little over an hour - when he and Lleyton Hewitt lost in straight sets to Eric Butorac and Raven Klaasen.
