Wozniacki undone by Safarova

  • Intro:

Newly-engaged former world number one Caroline Wozniacki suffered a setback in her preparation for the Australian Open, as she exited the Apia International in Sydney following a straight sets defeat to Lucie Safarova.

    Script:

The Czech Republic's Lucie Safarova was the opponent for the newly-engaged Caroline Wozniacki in round two of the Apia International in Sydney on Tuesday.

Fiance of golf star Rory McIlroy, the former world number one forged an early 3-0 lead but world number 27 Safarova fought back.

This crunching return then helped her to a crucial break at 4-4 as she claimed the first set.

Into the second, and audacious tennis such as this earned Wozniacki four set point opportunities.

But Safarova stayed strong - after denying the Dane three times at 6-3, she thwarted her attempt to level the match once again in the tie break.

Moments later a 6-3 7-6 victory was hers.

Looking for a sixth WTA title, she meets compatriot and second seed Petra Kvitova for a place in the final four.
