  • Intro:

Australia's Lleyton Hewitt delighted his home fans by fighting back to defeat Roger Federer in the final of the Brisbane International on Sunday.

    Script:

Lleyton Hewitt taking on Roger Federer was the colossal clash on the early 2000's and Brisbane was treated to another classic here.

The Australian, much to the joy of his home crowd, took the first set in 27 minutes. Breaking Federer three times to take it 6-1.

The second set was a lot tighter. Federer found his rhythm on the groundstrokes.

The 17 time Grand Slam Champion broke Hewitt to lead at 5-4 and finished the set off in the following game.

Yet true to character, Hewitt kept on fighting and won this game on the Federer serve putting him 3-1 up.

The deciding set continued on serve, setting up two match points for Hewitt....

The win for Hewitt was his first over Federer in 17 attempts and receiving the trophy - his first since 2010 - from Rod Laver would have been the icing on the cake for the 32-year-old.
