Kenyan athletes dominate Gabon marathon

    It proved to be a great double for Kenya at the inaugural Gabon Marathon as Peter Kurui and his compatriot Milika Jerotich claimed victory, after a high-class field of over 4,000 athletes assembled in Libreville on Sunday (1st December).

    A field of over 4,000 athletes assembled in the capital city of Libreville on Sunday, for the Gabon Marathon.

    The elite runners braved a variety of weather conditions on the run to and from the Friendship Stadium. before the finish line in the heart of city.

    In the men's race, Peter Kurui of Kenya took the honours as he crossed the finish line two hours, 24 minutes and 42 seconds.

    And his fellow countrymen Maswai Kiptanui and Lukas Kanda, completed an all-Kenyan podium sweep.

    In the women's event Kenya topped the bill again as Milika Jerotich came home in two hours, 34 minutes and four seconds.

    Radiya Adilo of Ethiopia and Joan Kigen of Kenya completed the top three.

    The first Gabonese athlete, Yves Koumba-Koumba, finished in an honourable 15th place in just over three hours.
