Novak Djokovic looks forward to Serbia's Davis Cup showdown with Czech Republic

Friday, November 15 2013 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Serbia will be without Victor Troiki and Janko Tipsarevic as they try and wrestle the Davis Cup from holders Czech Republic in the final starting on Friday.

The selection puts extra pressure on world number two Novak Djokovic who will be hoping to lead the Serbian campaign in front of their home crowd.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Radek Stepanek, Czech Republic (Q: How do you react to the news that you will be playing Novak Djokovic first?)

"You know there is no tougher cookie that this one (Djokovic) Playing Novak in front of his own crowd after the fall and winter that he has had. Right now he is playing tremendously well, beating everyone so easily so definitely it's a challenge and all I can do is try to play my best tennis and see where can I push him."

OUNDBITE: (English) Tomas Berdych, Czech Republic (Q: Does the news that Dusan Lajovic is playing for Serbia make you now into favourites for the tie?)

"We are in the final and we are playing away and we are playing a strong team from Serbia so it's not easy at all so we need to get three points. And it's been many times that the stronger teams didn't meet the expectations and the matches were pretty tight, pretty close or even go the other way so really we need to stay focussed, we need to try to score three points and that's all that we're here for."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Novak Djokovic, Serbia (Q: Is there more pressure on you now for this tie given that Victor Troiki and Janko Tipsarevic are both unavailable?)

"Pressure is always present and it's part of this competition, it's part of this particular tie. Davis Cup tie against the defending Champions who we are playing in the final of the Davis Cup. Expectations are there of course but we are used to it. We won the title back in 2010 and we hope that this particular experience and that title can help us this year and this weekend. Of course the absence of Victor (Troiki) and Janko (Tipsarevic) in our team is a big disadvantage for us and handicap, but again this is the situation and these are the players that we have and I still believe in this team and I hope with the support of the crowd we can make it."
