Kenya's Yego and Rotich win Athens Classic Marathon

    Hillary Yego of Kenya won the Athens Classic Marathon on Sunday (10th November) on his debut run at the distance.

    The women's race was won by another Kenyan, Nancy Rotich.

    Script:

    A record 11,000 runners took part in the 31st Athens Classic Marathon in warm weather on Sunday.

    It was won by Kenya's Hillary Yego - crossing the line at the Panathenaic Stadium in a time of two hours, 13 minutes and 59 seconds.

    The 33-year old was followed by his compatriot Dickson Kimeli with another Kenyan, David Rutoh in third.

    The women's race was won by another Kenyan, Nancy Rotich in a time of two hours 41 minutes and 38 seconds.

    Svitlana Stanko came in second with Magda Gazea completing the podium.

    Runners from 102 countries took part in the classic marathon. It began a short distance from the tumulus erected for the Greeks who died in The Battle of Marathon and finished at the Panathenaic Stadium, home to the first modern Olympics in 1896.
