Everest Trail Race gets underway

    Third edition of the Everest Trail Race gets underway.

    Script:

    Jiri in Nepal was the starting point for the third edition of the Everest Trail Race.

    The six day competition will take a field of 35 elite ultra-marathon runners through the Nepalese Himalayas.

    The stages comprise around a 160 kilometre route at high altitude - taking in some breath taking views of some of the world's tallest mountains.

    The early leader was Nepal's own Upendra Sunuwar.

    Spain's Luis Alberto Hernando was injured on the first stage.

    Brazil's Fernanda Maciel is the leading female competitor.

    The race is set to finish next Tuesday.
