  • Intro:

Stanislas Wawrinka beat David Ferrer 6-7 6-4 6-1 on Friday (8th November) to maintain his hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals.

    Script:

Stanislas Wawrinka took on Spaniard David Ferrer in the penultimate Group A fixture of the ATP World Tour Finals on Friday.

A win for Wawrinka would keep his hopes of reaching the tournament semi-finals alive, while Ferrer knew he had no chance of progressing.

The Swiss player opened a commanding 5-2 lead in the first set.

But Ferrer came back at him, reeling off four straight games.

He produced a clinical tie-break to take the opening set 7-6 and leave his opponent on the brink of exiting the tournament.

    But Wawrinka's confidence shone through.

He took the second set 6-4 to force the tie into a decider.

Ferrer's challenge faded from there, his hooked forehand handed his opponent an early break of serve in the third set.

A slick forehand winner from Wawrinka saw him take the match. 6-7, 6-4, 6-1
