The former boxer was an inspiration figure to many people and was banned from boxing as a result of him refusing to be drafted to the U.S. Military for the war in Vietnam and the movie is based on his 1971 appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Ali returned to boxing and went on to reclaim the World Heavyweight title by beating George Foreman in the 1974 'Rumble in the Jungle'
