Donaire and Rigondeaux weigh in ahead of fight

Sunday, April 14 2013 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Nonito "Filipino Flash" Donaire and Guillermo "El Chacal" Rigondeaux stepped on the scales on Friday to weigh in ahead of their World Junior Featherweight Championship bout on Saturday.

    Script:

On Friday WBO junior featherweight champion Nonito Donaire and WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux were face to face one final time before their Saturday fight at Radio City Music Hall to unify the 122 pound weight class.

While they nearly were the same weight, the Filipino was quick to remind his Cuban opponent that he holds the height advantage during the staredown.

Donaire won his 122 pound belt in February of last year and defended it three times to earn Fighter of the Year honours.

The Filipino Flash's last fight was in December - a third round knockout of Jorge Arce - and it improved his record to 31-1 with 20 KOs.

    SOUNDBITE (English):

"I can't say that it's the toughest fight of my life right now, that's something to be proved in April 13th, that's tomorrow. One thing so far is that, you know, this is going to be one of the most tactical fights that's going to be - power for power, speed for speed to see who will prevail and that's why this fight is exciting!"

    SUPER CAPTION: Nonito Donaire

His opponent Rigondeaux is a two-time Olympic gold medalist (2000, 2004) who defected from Cuba and turned professional in 2009.

Since then the 32-year-old has built a record of 11-0 with eight knockouts, and seized the WBA world super bantamweight championship.
