Lebanese born boxer Rola El-Halabi held a training session for the media on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old is preparing for her first fight since recovering from serious gunshot injuries.

She was shot by her stepfather and former manager, before a title fight in Berlin, in April 2011, and the 27-year-old says she never gave up hope of making a return to the ring, despite the odds being stacked against her.

SOUNDBITE: (German) Rola El Halabi, boxer: "The injuries were very serious. I have always believed that I'd come back into the ring one day. On the other hand, I did not know, if this would really happen, if my body would be able to fight again, because the doctors were not able to say anything concrete on this."

Rola spent two months in a wheelchair and had to undergo nine operations on her road to recovery.

In November 2011, Roy El-Halabi was sentenced to six years in prison.

Her fight with Italian Lucia Morelli will be for the vacant Women's International Boxing Association lightweight title.
