The Boston Red Sox introduced Shane Victorino at a press conference on Thursday (13 December) at Fenway Park after the free agent outfielder agreed to a $39 million, three-year contract.

"Beyond ecstatic to say the least. You know, I've been very fortunate as Ben (Cherington) said to play in a big market (Philadelphia), to play on a good team (Philadelphia Phillies), to play on a successful team. But, don't get me wrong. We all paid attention to the counterparts on the other side (American League) and what this organisation is all about and what Boston and the tradition that this place holds. And, you know, coming to Fenway (Park) I always said, you know, my two favourite parks when people always asked, what's your favourite park? And I said Fenway (Park) was one of my favourites. You know, in fact, there and Wrigley (Field) because of tradition. You know, coming here and getting an opportunity to play in Boston , you know, it's been absolutely amazing to be a visiting player. But now to call this home for the next three years, I'm ecstatic."

"You know, still to me if you look around the game of baseball there's one rivalry that you speak of. You know, it's the (New York) Yankees and (Boston) Red Sox. And again yeah, we were a part of something, you know, when we had the rivalry with the (New York) Mets. But, it's not the (Boston) Red Sox - (New York) Yankees."

"You're going to get what you get. You know, it's going to be me. I'm going to have fun. I'm going to go out there, I'm going to play a hundred percent. And, you know, to me if you look a the guys in the clubhouse. You have a, you know, David Ortiz, who has that personality, you know, (Dustin) Pedroia, who's high energy and kind of some of those guys, Jon Lester. I look at those kind of guys and you talk about low key guys, those guys are pretty much to me some of the most low key guys when I look at what they do and who they have. But, they're high energy, they're fun guys. And again, I'm excited to be here and just fit in and be myself."
