Cardinals praise explosive offence

  • Intro:

Reaction following the St. Louis Cardinals 12-4 victory against the Washington Nationals in Game 2 of their National League Divisional Series.

SOUNDBITE (English) Davey Johnson, Washington Nationals Manager:

"We're still a very young ball club, and this experience, it's a quick study. I mean, this is the time you see what happens against good clubs if you don't make adjustments, don't change your patterns. You can't stay one way. I don't think, like Zimm (Ryan Zimmerman), I don't think he came in - and usually he uses away and comes in, but he felt more he wanted to just go away against a good fastball-hitting club. And early on in the shadows here, you can track a fastball better than you can track a breaking ball, and he just didn't really have one in the first couple of innings."

SOUNDBITE (English) Mike Matheny, St. Louis Cardinals Manager:

"It was nice to see everybody have their part, but you know, certainly tip our hat to Lance Lynn being able to come in in a situation like that and perform and keep his composure and be prepared; then be able to carry for a few innings, and the same way with the rest of the guys that came in in situations that they might not have normally. But this offence, we know this offence has the potential to do this. We have a great respect for their offence, as well. We know they're explosive, as we saw a couple balls hit out of the park from them, as well. It was nice to see this, and hopefully it becomes contagious and the guys just keep going."

SOUNDBITE (English) Jon Jay, St. Louis Cardinals:

"Yeah, it was big, after the game yesterday, we really wanted to come out there today, and we knew how big this game was for us. So you know, that's the type of offence we have. We'll go out there and have good at-bats, and we were able to come up with big hits today. We've seen it all year, when we are able to do that, we are pretty dangerous, and it worked out today."
