  • Intro:

Number two seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland and fourth seed Serena Williams of the United States both won in straight sets to reach the fourth round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows on Saturday.

    Script:

Day six of the US Open saw two of the big hitters in the women's draw advance into the fourth round in straight sets.

Polish number two seed Agnieszka Radwanska overcame former world number one Jelena Jankovic in a match which saw no fewer than nine breaks of serve.

In the end, the Wimbledon runner-up, prevailed 6-3, 7-5 and will next take on Italy's Roberta Vinci, the number 20 seed.

Three-time US Open champion Serena Williams won the last eight games in her match against Russian Ekaterina Makarova to cruise into the last 16.

The 6-4, 6-0 victory proved sweet revenge for Serena as Makarova had put the American out of the Australian Open in January.

Williams will now meet either 14th seed Maria Kirilenko of Russia or unseeded Czech Andrea Hlavackova.
