Defending US Open champion Novak Djokovic gave his reaction after a straight sets win in the first round on Tuesday. American Andy Roddick also only needed three sets. In the women's draw both Williams sisters advanced to the second round in straight sets.

"I tried to analyse my game, and my game was great from the start to the end. You know, it's also important for me to try to be as economical with the time I spend on the court as possible, but obviously not underestimating any opponent. "it's been amazing and it's been a long stretch. I think what's been even more amazing is the fact I'm playing singles and doubles and going really deep in both events and being super fit for both because I really love winning singles, and I love winning doubles and every time you step out on the court you have to bring it mentally and physically. So I think I'm really excited that I've been able to consistently - and hopefully I continue to consistently - do that."
