Jankovic, lost at love while serving for the match in the second set, including a double-fault at love forty, and blew a total of five match points against her Chinese opponent.

Meanwhile wild card entrant Camila Giorgi eased past fellow Italian Francesca Schiavone in straight sets with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

Italy's Mona Barthel defeated Spain's Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-0, 6-4.

Barthel needed just over an hour to take out the Spaniard as she eased through her Cincinnati debut.

All three winners will now advance to the next round, with the tournament continuing through until Sunday.
