Day ten of the 2012 Olympic Games, and with the athletics going at full speed, Brazilian long distance runner Marilson dos Santos had a practice session on Monday at Team Brazil's Performance Centre at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in south London.
The twice New York City marathon champion believes it is his last chance to win a medal, although he knows that African runners are the favourites to secure the medal places.
"I will seize this opportunity as my last one to have a good result at an Olympic Games. I certainly have the willpower, and the determination to achieve a good result. Of course, we have to have in mind physical and psychological factors as well as external ones such as weather, drink a lot of water during the day of the competition. Everything must be perfect. I will dedicate myself completely to grab a medal."
Another unexpected situation he might have to worry about is the intervention of Irish priest Cornelius Horan, who was reported to be in London to watch the marathon.
In 2004 at the Athens Olympiad, Horan tackled the then-leader Brazil's Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima.
(LAUGHS) I think that, here, he will have some difficulties, especially because everybody knows him! His life will not be easy here the same way it was there in Athens."
The Olympic marathon will be held on August the 12th, the day of the closing ceremony.
