Top seed Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia cruised into the quarter finals of the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart, Germany on Wednesday after capturing a straightforward 6-4, 6-2 win over Steve Darcis of Belgium.

The Mercedes Cup continued with the second round in Stuttgart, Germany on Wednesday the 11th of July.

Following his recent giant-killing feat all eyes were on Lukas Rosol early on.

Rosol stunned Rafael Nadal in the second round of Wimbledon by knocking the two-time former champion out of the tournament.

But Bjorn Phau proved to be a more challenging proposition - especially given the support for the German player in the stands.

Despite an even match that thrilled the crowd the Czech player crashed out 7-6, 7-6 - allowing Phau to move into the last eight of the competition.

It was plain sailing though for Tipsarevic, who cruised into the quarter finals with a emphatic 6-4, 6-2 win.
