  • Intro:

Last week winner Kim Bi-o of South Korea fired a four-under 68 for a one shot lead after the first round of the Oneasia Tour's SK Telecom Open played in the Jeju island of South Korea on Thursday (17th May).

    Script:

Cool and windy conditions prevailed at the first round of the SK Telecom Open in the mountains of the Jeju Island in South Korea.

Pride of Korea KJ Choi showed his brilliance on the tenth hole when he hit his approach by threading the ball into the gap between the two bunkers at the mouth of the green to set up an eagle.

Choi, however, had to be content with a birdie on that hole and would finish with one over 73.

Kim Bi-o won last week's GS Maekyung Open in Seoul, and continued his fine form with a round of 68.

Kim Bi-o, who is a regular on the Nationwide Tour in the US, would card two more birdies and two more bogeys in his round and finished on top of the leader board.

New Zealand's Michael Hendy had the shot of the day when he sank this birdie putt on the 15th hole.

China's Hu Mu led the opening round till the 13th hole at six under. Then disaster struck. Mu made two back-to-back bogeys on the 14th and 15th holes and suffered even further on the 16th hole with a double bogey.

Local boy Young Nam briefly led the tournament at five under but even he would end with three bogeys in the last four holes to drop down the leader board. Like Mu, Nam too ended at two under 70 and tied for tied for fourth.
