Brendan Rodgers: defeat of Man City 'fills me with great pride'

Monday, March 12 2012 by SNTV

  • Intro:

Reactions from Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini and his Swansea City counterpart Brendan Rodgers following their sides' meeting in the English Premier League on Sunday.

Luke Moore scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Swansea - a result which, coupled with Manchester United's 2-0 home win over West Bromwich Albion, saw City knocked off the top of the table and replaced by their arch-rivals for the first time since last October.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roberto Mancini, Manchester City manager:

"I don't think that we deserved to lose this game.... I should say that Swansea played very well for the first 30 minutes, they played very well football, but after the second half we controlled the game.
We missed three or four chances on counter-attack to score, this is the problem at this moment, and after we conceded a stupid goal. A team like us can't concede a goal like this."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Roberto Mancini, Manchester City manager:

(Asked if he was keeping an eye on Manchester United's match - a 2-0 home win over West Bromwich Albion)

"well, this is not important. We are sure that we will fight against them until the end. We have another 10 games to finish this championship. The season is long. Every weekend changes the situation. Now, it's important that we are very compact together because don't change nothing. It's better to stay on top, but now we are.... behind, but it does not change our target."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Brendan Rodgers, Swansea City manager:

"Certainly it was a.... a terrific performance, and, like you say, whenever you take on a team like
Manchester City, with the resources and the project that they are in then, to actually dominate the game like that, it fills me with great pride, you know. I'm very blessed to work here at Swansea City with the players and allowed to work how I work and obviously we've got great results and today is certainly our best performance and result of the season."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Brendan Rodgers, Swansea City manager:

"We were well documented as the team that everybody fancied to go down, you know, but we just want to keep improving. We know there's still many changes ahead for us, but our idea is to finish as strong as we can, and that's why I never set a (points) target, because I think once you hit that target then people can become loose and free and think they've.... you know, we want to maximise our potential and that means pushing to the very, very end."
